LOA is the first pixel-art game I created using Godot Engine 3 as part of a college assignment for the Small Project 1 course. Set in the year 1977, the story follows a mother and her daughter who travel from Java to East Kalimantan to reunite with the father, who had moved earlier to work in mining during the Japanese occupation.
The game begins with the daughter arriving in Kalimantan and immediately setting out to find her father, who is employed at the Oost Borneo Maatschappij (OBM) mining company. Along the way, players can explore the town of Loa Kulu, interact with its residents, and take on various quests.
As the journey progresses into the mining forest, the daughter encounters a Dutch girl who plays a central role in the story. Together, they uncover the dark history of a massacre that took place during the Japanese occupation. The site of the mass grave from this tragedy has since been memorialized with a monument in Loa Kulu, officially recognized by the state.
This game weaves historical elements with exploration and storytelling, offering players a unique glimpse into a significant moment in East Kalimantan's history.
